Sujit Narzary Biography
Sujit Narzary, born on January 8, 1972, is remembered as the first martyr of the Bodoland movement. He was only 15 years and 5 months old when he tragically lost his life on June 12, 1987.
Sujit was killed during a protest led by Bodofa Upendranath Brahma, while returning to Kokrajhar from a massive public gathering at Judges Field in Guwahati, where the demand for a separate Bodoland state was raised. He was attacked by anti-tribal elements at Tihu Chowk in Nalbari.
His sacrifice became a symbol of courage and commitment to the Bodoland movement. In his honour, June 12 is observed every year as Bodoland Martyrs Day.



Bodoland Martyrs Day Observance
Every year on June 12, Bodoland Mungkhlong San also known as Bodoland Martyrs’ Day or ABSU Martyrs’ Day is observed to honor Late Sujit Narzary, the first martyr of the Bodoland Movement.
The day is marked by a memorial gathering at his tomb in Bhatipara village, Kokrajhar, where family, friends, and supporters come together to pay tribute to his sacrifice and legacy.

The Bodoland Martyrs Day 2025 will mark its 38th observance, paying tribute to all those who sacrificed their lives during the Bodoland movement. The day will be solemnly commemorated at various locations where ABSU offices are established, with events and gatherings held to honor their memory.
