Assam Panchayat Election 2025: The Assam State Election Commission has released the official schedule for the Panchayat Election 2025. Assam Panchayat Election 2025

The Assam State Election Commission, on April 2, 2025, officially released the schedule of the Panchayat Election in Assam 2025 through a notification number- No.SEC,63/2022/125. The elections are to be conducted in 2 phases in 27 districts, excluding Sixth Schedule districts. The panchayat elections will be conducted across 14 districts in Upper Assam and Barak Valley in the first phase on May 2, 2025, and across 13 districts of Lower Assam areas in the second phase on May 7, 2025.

The first phase of polling for the Panchayat Election in Assam 2025 will be held on May 2, covering districts in Upper Assam and Barak Valley including Tinsukia, Dibrugarh, Charaideo, Sivasagar, Majuli, Jorhat, Golaghat, Dhemaji, Lakhimpur, Sonitpur, Biswanath, Cachar, Hailakandi, and Sribhumi. If a repoll is required in any constituency, it will take place on May 4, 2025.

The second phase of polling for the Panchayat Election in Assam 2025 is scheduled for May 7, covering districts in Lower Assam and Middle Assam, including Dhubri, South Salmara-Mankachar, Goalpara, Bongaigaon, Barpeta, Bajali, Nalbari, Kamrup, Kamrup (Metro), Hojai, Nagaon, Morigaon, and Darrang. If a repoll is required, it will be conducted on May 9, 2025.

The polling hours for both phases have been set from 7:30 AM to 4:30 PM. The counting of votes for both phases will take place on May 11, starting at 8:00 AM and continuing until the process is completed.

According to State Election Commissioner Alok Kumar, the total number of voters for the 2025 Panchayat Election in Assam is 1,80,36,682, marking a 13.27% increase compared to the last Panchayat Election held in December 2018.

A total of 25,007 polling stations will be set up across the districts where the election is scheduled to be held.

Model Code Of Conduct

The Model Code of Conduct consists of 8 (eight) parts for the guidance of Political parties and Candidates and is summarised as below:

  1. Part (I) of Model Code of Conduct lays stress on certain minimum standards of good behaviour and conduct of Political Parties and Candidates and their workers and supporters during the election campaign.
  2. Part (II) and Part (III) deal with the holding of public meeting and taking out procession by Political party and Candidates.
  3. Part (IV) and (V) describe as to how Political Parties and Candidates should conduct themselves on the Polling Day and at the Polling Booths.
  4. Part (VI) exhorts Political Parties and Candidates to bring their complaints to the notice of the observers appointed by the Election Commission for remedial actions.
  5. Part (VII) deals with the parties in power. This part is, in essence, the flesh and blood of Model Code, which deals with several issues relating to Government and its Ministers, such as visits of Ministers, use of Government transport and Government accommodation, announcements of various schemes and projects etc.
  6. The newly added Part (VIII) says that Election Manifestoes shall not contain anything repugnent to the ideals and principles enshrined in the Constitution and further that it shall be consistent with the letter and spirit of other provisions Model Code.
