About Assam Students Day
Assam Students Day, or Chatra Divas, is celebrated annually on 31st March to honor the birth anniversary of the renowned social reformer and student leader, Upendra Nath Brahma. A man of many talents, Upendra Nath Brahma pursued an M.Sc. in Physics, served as an Income Tax Inspector, worked as a Science Teacher, and held the position of President of the Central ABSU.
All Bodo Students’ Union (ABSU), the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) government, and various Bodo organizations have been actively participating in Students Day (Poraisa San) for decades. The day is observed with great pride to honor Bodofa’s legacy and his unwavering commitment to the education and empowerment of students.
In 2023, the Assam government officially declared that the birth anniversary of the late Bodofa Upendra Brahma would be celebrated as Assam Student Day (Chhatra Divas or Foraisa San) across the entire state of Assam. This celebration is no longer limited to the Bodo community; now, students across Assam will observe this day. It is a significant achievement for the Bodo tribe.
In 2025, Assam Students Day has been celebrated for the third time in the state, marking a significant occasion to honor the contributions and legacy of students’ movements in Assam.
Assam Students Day 2025 Celebration
The third Assam Student Day was celebrated at the KBR Auditorium, Cotton University. The event was organized by the BTR government in collaboration with the Assam Education Minister to pay tribute to the Bodo leader Upendra Nath Brahma. During the program speech the BTR CEM has revealed that the BTR Govt is set to established a new international school names as- Bodofa International School of Peace.

Bodofa Upendra is fondly remembered as the “Father of Bodos”, and his birthday is commemorated as Students Day in Assam from 31 March 2023. The All Bodo Students’ Union (ABSU) and other organizations of Bodo community has been observing 31st March as a student day in Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) and various other places, Since the early days.
