Jwhwlao Nileswar Brahma Cultural Award 2024
The Jwhwlao Nileswar Brahma Cultural Award 2024 has been conferred on renowned cine artiste and singer Gunabati Basumatary (popularly known as Dangkhwl Lwdw).
She was felicitated by the Dularai Boro Harimu Afad (DBHA) with a traditional Aronai at her residence in Dotma on 17 December 2024. The Award Jwhwlao Nileswar Brahma Cultural Award has been presented annually to individuals who have made significant contributions to the promotion of Bodo culture, the award includes a memento, a citation, and a cheque of Rs. 2 lakh.
About Gunabati Basumatary
Gunabati Basumatary, born on January 19, 1963, in Baoti village of Kokrajhar, is a celebrated figure in Bodo folk music and theatre. She gained popularity for her folk songs and has recorded numerous tracks over the years.
Her musical journey began with the audio cassette Rongjali, and she made her acting debut in the Bodo film Boba. Since 1974, she has been actively involved in drama and one-act plays, performing under the banner of Rongjali Afat in Dotma.
