What is B Ed?

The candidates who want to become a teacher must have to do a B Ed course. A few years ago, this was not mandatory, but due to the new rules, all the candidates would have to do B.Ed to become a teacher.

The full form of B.Ed is Bachelor of Education. It basically means graduation in education. It is an undergraduate course of two years. In which it is taught to the B.Ed students that in how easy the education is provided to the children, children should be explained in such simple ways. With this, it is also taught how should the mind of students be attracted towards more and more studies.

After the completion of two years B. Ed course, the candidates will be appointed as a teacher in the field of education. To get a job in the Assam government schools, you have to clear the TET exam i.e, Teacher Eligibility Test (TET), after clearing the TET, keep on applying for any vacancy at the government schools. In a similar way, to get a job in a Private school, you have to give the necessary exam, it can be either a written test followed by Viva. Many private schools seek TET-passed candidates for filling their teaching vacancy posts.

For your information, under the RTE Act 2009, for the first time in the month of April 2010, B.Ed had begun. Since then this course has been made compulsory to become a teacher.

Eligibility Criteria for B.Ed

Like every course, a criterion has been set by the government for the B.Ed course that every student had to follow. To enroll in the B Ed course, students must first

  1. Passed 12th from any recognized board. In the case of Assam, it will be SEBA and CBSE.
  2. Completed graduation from any subject of his choice, any subject recognized by UGC from college or university.
  3. A percentage is required to enroll in B.Ed
    1. General – A minimum of 50% in graduation
    2. SC/ST – A minimum of 45% in graduation
    3. A minimum of 55% for students with a specialization in Science and Mathematics.
  4. Age:
    1. Minimum age- 21 years
    2. Maximum age- 40 years
    3. Relaxation- 5 years of age relaxation is available for SC/ST/PWD students

B Ed Entrance Exam

Most colleges or universities, B Ed admission is taken on the basis of direct admission and merit. But in each state, the entrance exam is also conducted under different names.

Direct Admission – Of these, taking direct admission is the easiest. If someone wants to take B.Ed direct admission, then directly you can take admission after going to the college and paying the admission fee. Or you will have to fill out the admission form by visiting the official website of the college or university. Admission will be given after paying the course fee.

Merit Basis Admission – Apart from this, there are some colleges where admission is done on the basis of merit. Thus the marks of graduation or post-graduation are checked and admission is given accordingly.

Entrance Exam – But there are some government and big institutes/universities which conducts entrance exam for B.Ed admission in their college. Only after passing, does one gets admission for B.Ed.

Note: Nowadays, due to the rise of unemployment and B. Ed now mandatory for teaching, a lot of students opt for B. Ed degree, and since very few colleges offers B.Ed course, Direct admission is rarely offered by any colleges. Merit basis admission is still there, but only few % of the seats are reserved for it, rest all admission are taken basis on Entrance Exam.

Bodoland University B.Ed Entrance Exam

Every year, Bodoland University conducts an Entrance Exam for B.Ed admission in the month of Aug. A total of seven colleges of Assam are part of it, where three are within the BTR.

Every year, Bodoland University Kokrajhar conducts an entrance exam for the B.Ed admission. There are seven colleges affiliated with Bodoland University that offers B.Ed courses. Passing the B.Ed entrance exam conducted by Bodoland University will make you eligible for taking B Ed admission into these colleges.

DIET full form is the District Institute of Education Training.

So from the above seven B.Ed colleges affiliated with Bodoland University, only three colleges are under the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR). Any students who wish to study B.Ed within the BTR jurisdiction, then they need to get admission to the below three B.Ed colleges only.

Reservation:

  1. 20% of seats are reserved for deputation in the above four DIETs.
  2. 50% of seats are reserved for deputation in GCTE, Kokrajhar, while 20% of seats are reserved for deputation in the remaining two other Colleges.
  3. 80% of seats will be reserved for the students of affiliated colleges of Bodoland University.
