National Sports Awards 2023: This year, a total of 42 National Sports was awarded, encompassing athletes, coaches, and universities. The prestigious accolades include 2 Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Awards 2023, 26 Arjuna Awards 2023, 8 Dronacharya Awards 2023, 3 Dhyan Chand Awards 2023, and 3 Maulana Abul Kalam Azad Trophies 2023 for Universities.

National Sports Awards 2023

2023 National Sport Award in India: The Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports officially announced the recipients of the National Sports Awards 2023 on December 20, 2023. The award ceremony took place at Rashtrapati Bhavan on January 9, 2024, where the President of India conferred honors upon the awardees.

The Government compiled the final list of awardees based on the committee’s recommendations, as detailed in a Ministry press release. This selection process involved a thorough evaluation and recommendations by a Committee chaired by retired Supreme Court judge Justice A.M. Khanwilkar.

The President conferred the Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award 2023 upon two sportspersons.

Additionally, 26 athletes was awarded with Arjuna Award for their performances in Sports and Games throughout 2023.

Furthermore, five coaches in Sports and Games was acknowledged with the Dronacharya Award for their contributions.

Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award 2023

The ‘Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award’ is given to an athlete who has demonstrated exceptional performance in the field of sports during the past four years. It acknowledges their outstanding achievements and brilliance in their respective sport.

This year, two deserving players will be honored with Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna National Sports Awards 2023.

Dronacharya Award 2023

The ‘Dronacharya Award for Outstanding Coaches in Sports and Games’ has two categories – the regular award and the lifetime achievement award – each highlighting different aspects of a coach’s career.

i) The regular award is given to coaches who have consistently shown excellent performance over the past four years. It recognizes their ongoing efforts in helping athletes succeed at the international level.

ii) On the other hand, the lifetime achievement award is for coaches whose impact has been lasting for 20 years or more. This award specifically looks at the coach’s role in developing exceptional athletes throughout their extensive coaching career.

This year, eight coaches will be receiving this Dronacharya National Sports Awards 2023.
