Assam Pension Scheme for Journalist 2025: The Directorate of Information and Public Relations (DIPR), Assam, has released an official advertisement inviting applications for the Assam Pension Scheme for Journalists for the year 2025–26. This scheme is aimed at supporting retired journalists who have served the media industry in Assam with dedication and integrity.
The Assam Journalist Pension Scheme, implemented since January 2016, provides a lifetime pension to retired journalists in Assam. Eligible journalists receive a monthly pension of Rs. 8,000/-. The scheme aims to recognize the contributions of senior journalists in Assam after they reach 60 years of age. An amount of Rs. 8000 per month will be provided as pension to the retired journalists who served in Assam for atleast 20 years.

Eligibility Criteria for Assam Journalist Pension Scheme
To be considered for the Journalist pension scheme in Assam, applicants must fulfill the following criteria:
Age & Retirement:
- Must be 60 years or older.
- Must have retired from the job of a Journalist, Photo Journalist, Correspondent, Proof Reader, or Camera Person.
Domicile & Experience:
- Must be a domicile of Assam.
- Must have served as a journalist in Assam for at least 20 years prior to retirement.
Professional Definition:
- Must qualify as a journalist under the Working Journalist Act, 1955.
- Journalists with recognition/accreditation cards from DIPR Assam will be given preference.
- Those with 20+ years of continuous service will receive additional preference.
Income Condition:
- Must not be on the payroll of any media house.
- Should not be receiving any pension from other sources (except EPF).
Ineligibility:
- Proprietors, Editors, Managers, and those not related to working journalist roles are not eligible.
- Government servants are also excluded from this pension scheme.
- An individual can only receive one pension under DIPR schemes (Journalist, Literature, Sports, etc.).
