Tiwa and Deori as Medium of Instruction: The Department of School Education, Assam has released a notification announcing a major step toward preserving indigenous languages. Beginning with the 2025–2026 academic session, students from the Tiwa and Deori communities will be able to pursue their education in their mother tongue up to Class V.
As part of this initiative, the government has designated 126 Lower Primary Schools—98 for Tiwa and 28 for Deori—to offer instruction in these native languages.

These schools will now be categorized as Deori Medium Lower Primary Schools and Tiwa Medium Lower Primary Schools. This initiative aims to ensure that students from the Deori and Tiwa communities receive education in their mother tongue or home language.

The Assam Education Minister has announced through his official Facebook account that Tiwa and Deori have been recognized as mediums of instruction in select Lower Primary Schools.
