Kamal Kumar Brahma Biography

Kamal Kr Brahma was born on 2nd August 1929 in Dhouliguri village, located in the Kokrajhar district of Assam. He was the son of Madaram Brahma, the first Padma Shri Award recipient from the Bodo community, and Rupeswari Brahma, a homemaker. His early life was deeply influenced by his father’s pioneering contributions to the Bodo society.

Kamal Kumar Brahma Education

Kamal Kumar Brahma pursued his higher education at Gauhati University, where he completed both his graduation and post-graduation in 1958 and 1963. Following his academic journey, he devoted himself to the field of education. He began his career as a teacher at Kokrajhar High School and later at Kokrajhar Government College. He also served as the principal of Kokrajhar Basic Training School, leaving a significant impact on Bodo-medium education

He wrote the script for Daina (1984), the first Bodo documentary film, and Jiuni Simang (1987), the second feature film after Alayaron (1986).

Kamal Kumar Brahma Derhasat Bhanta

To honor the legacy of the great works of Kamal Kumar Brahma, the All Bodo Students Union (ABSU) initiated the “Kamal Kumar Brahma Derhasat Bhanta” – an annual award presented to the highest-scoring top 10 student in HSLC examination from the Bodo medium in Bodoland.

In 2025, ABSU organized the 19th edition of this prestigious award ceremony on 23rd May 2025, continuing its commitment to encouraging academic excellence and celebrating Bodo heritage.
