What is BAC Accord Day?
The BAC (Bodoland Autonomous Council) Accord Day, is celebrated annually on February 20, commemorates the signing of the Bodo Accord in 1993, a historic peace agreement that aimed to address the demands of the Bodo people for autonomy, development, and the protection of their cultural identity. The Accord was a significant step towards bringing peace and stability to the Bodo region in Assam, India, after years of unrest and violence due to demands for a separate Bodo state.
The first Bodo Accord was signed between the Government of India, the Government of Assam, and the Bodo Liberation Tigers (BLT), a group representing the Bodo community. The agreement in 1993, Bodoland became an autonomous administrative unit constituted under the Sixth Schedule area of the Constitution of India covering an area of 8,795 km administered by the Bodoland Autonomous Council.
