What is Dr. Bashi Ram Bodo Doctoral Scholarship?
The “Dr. Bashi Ram Bodo Doctoral Scholarship” is a scholarship initiative named after Dr. Bashi Ram Bodo, the first Bodo person to earn a doctorate. This scholarship aims to support deserving students from the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) who are pursuing PhD programs. The scholarship will provide financial assistance to help students pursue higher education and achieve their academic goals.
The Dr. Bashi Ram Bodo Doctoral Scholarship provides an amount of Rs. 1,80,000 per year to 50 meritorious students. Each student will receive Rs. 90,000 every six months for a duration of two years, with the possibility of an extension if applicable.
Who is Dr Bashi Ram Bodo?
Dr. Bashi Ram Bado was the first person to earn a doctorate from the Bodo Community. Mr. Bado was born in a village name Gerua near Dhamdhama on 4 January, 1945. He did his schooling at Bunyadi School, Geruwa, and later at the Rural Institute of Wardha, Maharashtra. Dr. Bashi Ram has completed his MA in History from Kashi Vidyapith, Varanasi. Bashi Ram did his PhD at Guwahati has got his doctorate from Guwahati University.
Dr. Bashi Ram Bado passed away on April 20, 1994, due to a sudden heart attack, leaving behind a legacy of educational excellence and service to the Bodo community.

Eligibility Criteria
As there is no update yet on the eligibility criteria for the 2025 Dr. Bashi Ram Bodo Scholarship, you can refer to the previous year’s criteria to get an idea of the requirements for applicants. To be eligible for the Dr. Bashi Ram Bado Doctoral Fellowship 2024, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- The applicant must be a permanent Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) resident.
- The applicant must have secured admission into a doctoral program at a reputed Indian central or state university or any other higher educational institution of repute.
- The applicant must have an annual family income of Rs.400,000 (four lakhs) or below.
- The applicant must demonstrate financial need for the fellowship and must only avail of a fellowship/scholarship on the day of filling out the application for this fellowship.
- The applicant must exhibit academic excellence with a robust research proposal related to the socio-economic or educational development of BTR.

Dr. Bashi Ram Bodo Doctoral Scholarship 2024
The Dr. Bashi Ram Bodo Doctoral Scholarship/Fellowship, an initiative by the BTR Government, is the first-ever program designed to support PhD scholars in the region, providing a financial assistance of Rs. 90,000 every six months for 2 years.
The results for the Dr. Bashi Ram Bodo Doctoral Scholarship 2024 have been announced, with 111 students having applied. Out of these, 48 students from BTR have successfully received this prestigious scholarship. This initiative marks a significant step toward promoting higher education and research within the region.
