Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya in Bodoland 2025: Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya (KGBV) is a government school created under the central government scheme that gives FREE quality education to the girls from the age group of 10-18 years of SC/ST/OBC/Minority Community and BPL families. A total of 12 KGBV have been established in BTR Region.
What is Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya?
The Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya (KGBV) is a scheme, launched by the Indian Government in 2004 for setting up residential schools for girls belonging to the SC/ST/OBC and minorities in backward areas (educationally backward blocks of the district).
The government of India launched KGBV to make the education system more responsive to the needs of girls. The KGBV scheme provides education for girls in the age group of 10-18 years belonging to SC/ST/OBC/Minority Community and BPL families.

The Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya in Assam is mainly of two types: Type II and Type III. The Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya in BTR mentioning Type II and Type III are detailed below:
1. KGBV Type II Schools: Type II KGBV is a school for classes 6-10 with hostel facilities. The total intake of type II KGBV is 100 students.
2. KGBV Type III Schools: Type III KGBV is a school for classes 6-12 with hostel facilities. The total intake of type III KGBV is 150 students.
3. KGBV Type IV Schools: Type IV KGBV is a school for classes 9-12which focuses on providing residential education for girls in classes 9-12, targeting girls from disadvantaged backgrounds.
